Given the Ford Focus ST’s fine reputation in the hot hatch segment, many would be forgiven for thinking an additional power upgrade would be almost impossible. However, with the recently released upgrade from engine tuner Mountune, the manufacturer has done just that.
The upgrade raises the 2.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine’s 247bhp power output to a more potent 271bhp. To achieve the feat, Mountune has remapped the car’s software and fitted it with a new large capacity intercooler and air filter. Maximum torque also rises from 344Nm to 400Nm at 2,750rpm.
It is unclear how this will impact the Focus ST’s 0-60mph time, as the manufacturer is yet to reveal a revised figure. However, you can be sure that the current time of around 6.5 seconds will come down, while a top speed of 154mph may rise if it isn’t limited.
The uprated powertrain makes sure the Focus ST can fight off stiff competition from rival hot hatches produced by Volkswagen, SEAT and Vauxhall. Ford’s UK sales director has commented that the change will enable current owners "to experience even more impressive performance, while offering the reassurance that the upgrade will not affect warranties."
The upgrade takes just two hours to be fitted at an authorised Ford dealer such as Motors Coalville in Leicester. As an approved sales and servicing partner, any work completed by our technicians preserves your Ford warranty.
